How I Built My Dream Website in One Week Using Claude AI

From a 10-year dream to a live professional site — domain registration, AWS Lightsail, WordPress, and a fully interactive Ramadan countdown page. All with AI.

I’ve wanted my own website for 10 years — and I finally built it in one week using Claude AI.

Ten years of ideas sitting in my head. Always telling myself “I’ll start it next month.” Meanwhile, watching others build their platforms while mine stayed a dream.

Then I discovered Claude — and everything changed.

Specifically, in one week while working a full-time job, I went from zero to a live, fully designed, professional website at ilmbytestech.com. I registered my own domain, set up cloud hosting on AWS, installed WordPress, designed the entire site, and published my first page — a fully interactive Ramadan 2027 Countdown tool complete with live timers, duas, FAQs, and an AI greeting generator.

In short — all of it, in one week, with the help of Claude AI.

This is my story — and if I can do it, so can you.

💡
This article is for everyone who has ever wanted their own website but didn’t know where to start. If I can do it, anybody can do it.

Who Am I and Why Does This Matter?

To give you some context, I’m a Toronto-based IT professional with over 10 years of experience in Systems Administration, DevOps, and now transitioning into Cyber Security. Additionally, I’m an AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate with a computer science background. I’ve also built websites on Wix before.

In other words — I’m not a complete beginner. However, I’m also not a web designer. I’ve never run my own WordPress site from scratch, never owned my own domain, and I certainly never imagined I could design a professional, feature-rich website in a single week while holding down a demanding full-time job.

Nevertheless, here we are.

The 10-Year Dream

Let me be honest with you. For a decade, I’ve wanted to start a website — a platform where I could share my knowledge about technology, Islamic content, health, fitness, and everything in between. I had the ideas, the experience, and even the technical background to do it.

However, what I didn’t have was the time, the confidence to start, and the right tool to help me execute.

Furthermore, every time I tried, I got stuck on something:

  • The design felt overwhelming
  • The tech setup took too long
  • I didn’t know where to start
  • Life got in the way

Sound familiar? That’s exactly why I’m writing this. Because AI — specifically Claude AI — has changed the game, and I want you to know about it.

01

Registering My Domain on AWS Route 53

As an AWS Certified Solutions Architect, my first instinct was to use AWS for everything. Therefore, I headed straight to AWS Route 53 to register my domain.

Specifically, I chose ilmbytestech.com — a name that combines “Ilm” (the Arabic word for knowledge), “Bytes” (the digital world), and “Tech” (what I do). Remarkably, within minutes, ilmbytestech.com was mine.

After 10 years of waiting, I finally owned a piece of the internet.

💡
Tip: If you’re not an AWS user, you can register domains on Namecheap, GoDaddy, or Google Domains — all easy and affordable options starting from around $10–15/year.
02

Setting Up AWS Lightsail

For hosting, I chose AWS Lightsail — Amazon’s simplified cloud hosting platform. Since I had used Lightsail before during my AWS certification studies, I was already familiar with the basics. Moreover, this time I also used GitHub Copilot to help me navigate the setup process faster.

Specifically, here’s what I set up:

  • A Lightsail instance running WordPress
  • A static IP address
  • DNS configuration connecting my Route 53 domain to Lightsail
  • SSL certificate for HTTPS

Of course, it wasn’t perfect the first time. I hit roadblocks along the way. However, having AI assistance meant that every time I got stuck, I had someone to ask — and consequently got a clear answer within seconds.

💰
Cost: AWS Lightsail WordPress plans start from around $5/month — one of the most affordable ways to host a professional WordPress site on enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure.
03

Where Claude AI Changed Everything

Here’s where the story gets interesting. I had my domain. I had my hosting. WordPress was installed. And then I opened my browser, stared at a blank WordPress dashboard, and thought:

“Now what?”

This is the moment most people give up. That’s precisely when I turned to Claude AI. To be clear, I don’t mean I typed one prompt and a website appeared. Rather, Claude became my:

Designing the Website With Claude AI

Honestly, the design side was what scared me the most. I can manage infrastructure and configure servers. However, making something look beautiful? That’s not my strength.

Fortunately, Claude AI helped me choose a Blocksy theme for WordPress, set up brand colors (navy blue and gold), build a clean navigation menu with categories (Tech, Islamic, Health, Food, Gym), and design a homepage I’m genuinely proud of.

More importantly, Claude explained why each design decision mattered — not just what to do. As a result, that kind of explanation helped me actually learn, rather than just copy and paste.

06

SEO and Going Live

Finally, before publishing, Claude AI walked me through:

  • Installing Yoast SEO and setting up focus keywords
  • Writing optimized meta titles and descriptions
  • Adding Event Schema markup via WPCode
  • Setting up Open Graph tags for social sharing
  • Configuring the correct URL slug for SEO

These were all things I had never done before — tasks that would have taken me days of research. Instead, they were done in minutes with Claude AI guidance.

7 Lessons From Building With AI

1
AI doesn’t replace your effort — it multiplies it. I still had to make decisions, provide direction, and put in the hours. Claude amplified what I was capable of.
2
Your domain is your identity — choose it carefully. Your domain name is your brand. Don’t rush it.
3
Done is better than perfect. I could have spent months planning the perfect website. Instead I started, made mistakes, fixed them, and launched.
4
AI is the great equaliser. You don’t need a design agency. You don’t need a development team. You need focus, consistency, and the right AI tools.
5
Your knowledge has value. 10 years of IT experience was sitting in my head doing nothing for other people. This website changes that.
6
Start before you’re ready. I waited 10 years because I didn’t feel ready. The truth is you never feel fully ready. Start anyway.
7
The hardest part is the first step. Registering the domain felt huge. But each step became easier once I took the previous one.

How You Can Do This Too

If you’re reading this thinking “I could never do that” — I want to challenge that thought directly. You can.

Week 1
  • Register your domain (Route 53, Namecheap, GoDaddy)
  • Set up WordPress hosting (AWS Lightsail, SiteGround, Hostinger)
  • Install WordPress
Week 2
  • Choose a theme (Blocksy is free and excellent)
  • Set up your categories and menu
  • Install Yoast SEO
Week 3
  • Write your first article
  • Ask Claude to help with design, content, and code
  • Publish and share

Final Thoughts

Overall, using Claude AI to build a website has not replaced the need for human effort, creativity, or expertise. Rather, what it has done is remove the barriers that stop most people from ever starting.

Previously, the gap between having an idea and executing it was enormous. It required teams of designers, developers, and content writers. Moreover, it required months of learning and significant financial investment.

Today, that gap no longer exists.

Therefore, if you have knowledge to share, a story to tell, or a business to build — the tools are available to you right now. Ultimately, the only question is whether you’ll use them.

I waited 10 years. I wish I hadn’t.

Start today.
